Updates from the Google Search Console arrive quickly and furiously. Even for the most professional SEO, it can be difficult to keep abreast of all the latest developments.

As such, I thought it would be useful to provide an easily digestible overview. What we know about Google's plans to migrate features of the old version, as well as the evolution of the new version of Search Console.

I hope this message is updated with the latest versions. and developments, but feel free to leave me a message if I forgot something.

What has / been migrating to the new Search Console?

The main source of confusion about The new version of Search Console explains how Google handles the transition from the old version because not all features are transferred directly into the new version.

Instead, Google takes the opportunity to re-evaluate its goals. the tools and reports that they provide to be more useful for an Nd users to align more closely with the evolving challenges that SEO professionals are now facing.

After some dribs and drabs of information about what is and is not migrated to the new version, Google has usefully published . a post clarifying their plans.

Here is an overview of Google's plans in the state.

New reports and brilliant tools

Performances

The performance report has been around for almost a year now and was the first feature film to be launched in the beta version of Search Console.

With the new sexy user interface, the biggest benefit of the performance report compared to the old Search Analytics report is the extension of the date range to include 16 months of data instead of 3 months.

This could be improved by using a calendar picker, similar to Google Analytics. Filtering : The Performance Report is a gold mine for organic knowledge, but it is tedious and tedious to define the necessary filters. each time you enter the search console again. I would really like to see more customization introduced in Search Console. It would be useful to be able to save the filtered reports and pin them to the Overview page. It is very useful to extract the data from the search console in dashboard platforms like Data Studio but not everyone will have the time to do it. Google must therefore facilitate the extraction of information as easily as possible.

Index Coverage Report

Launched next to the performance report at the birth of the new version of Search Console, the index coverage report is a welcome evolution of the reports on the errors of analysis and the status of the index.

The problem is that some Fetch features like Google will be lost and have not been replicated in the inspection tool (for example, a side-by-side comparison of how Googlebot and a user see a page, a history in the course of page extraction, Differences in the loading of page resources : Google's John Mueller declared in a recent Hangout Webmaster that embedded resources might not be loaded Live test the page in the inspection tool because they want to provide fast information. For the purpose of indexing, these resources can be loaded, but this is not not necessarily what the inspection tool will report.

When is it obsolete?

Unknown

Why is it not recommended?

This report is a true relic of Search Console and is rightly discarded. The report provides limited information about page problems, so the Google team probably recognized that many other tools were better at detecting this type of problem.

title tag and meta description length is a bit of a gray area these days because of various tests and the fact that Google rewrites them sometimes.

Property Set

Property sets were a way to group individual properties of the search console into a global property. SEO professionals typically use it to combine different variations of a domain into a single view (for example, subdomains, www / non-www and HTTP / HTTPS).

March 2019.

Why is it inadvisable?

Google has decided to delete sets of properties such as they are only used by a small number of users .

However, Google has published in recent months an invite-only experimental feature called Domain Properties that rethinks property sets. .

Domain properties provide a more complete view of a domain as a whole and eliminate the need to create separate properties for variants of that domain.

Andr oid Apps

Historically, Search Console provided features to monitor the visibility of applications in Google's index, such as creating an application as that owns in Search Console and Fetch as Google for apps.

Why app indexing is now handled in Firebase (formerly Google App Indexing). As such, Google has gradually disabled the application indexing features in the search console during the past year.

TBD

Google did a relatively good job. After transferring (and taking advantage of) their capabilities in the new search console, they openly admitted that it was yet to be decided how to manage the following tasks and tools:

Data from. statistics analysis (pages crawled per day, KB downloaded daily, download page) Robots.txt testManage URL settings in Google Search International targeting (hreflang tag management or definition of a preferred target country) Data Highlighter ToolReading and Managing Your MessagesAdvance Tool ExchangeParametry of the Preferred DomainAssociation of the Property of Your Search Console with an Analytics PropertyDiscover LinksDiscover Obsolete Contents of the IndexReport of Blocked Resources Report of structured data

What other changes do you need to know?

O In addition to the migration information provided in the reports, Google has provided several more general updates regarding the new search console

The old search console will be out Usage by 2019 : This month, Mueller informed us the team planned to phase out the old version of Search Console by the end of 2019. Consolidating Your Website Traffic to Canonical URLs : This month, Google also decided that the performance report data should be consolidated into canonical URLs. The advantage is that it "unifies all metrics to search for single content in a single URL", but it would be nice to also be able to access raw data (this switch will be removed on April 10th. ). Planned relocation to the domain properties : In November 2018, Google began to allow invitation-only access to a new feature of the domain properties, which provides a more complete view of the domains in the domain. search console and replaces property sets. Search console statistics in the SERP : In October 2018, Google began to display the performance report metrics directly in the SERPs. User Management : In August 2018, Google launched a more sophisticated user management system that all users to see and (if any) manage the roles of all users of the property.

Wrapping

It is important for all of us, in the SEO industry, to make sure that our opinions are heard through Search Console. comment form or on Twitter.

It's encouraging that Google is actively asking for feedback, which encourages them to accept user feedback.

By providing constructive comments, you will not lose any key items.

Saying this, Search Console is a giant step forward and it's good to see how Google adds to its existing features and the new pace features at which this happens. I am excited to see how the tool will evolve over the next few months.
