A number of referrers have reported suspension of Google My Business listings after adding a short name to their profile.

Abbreviated names were introduced in April. a way to allow businesses to create custom URLs for their Google My Business listings.

It is now obvious that the addition of abbreviated names results in the suspension and deletion of lists of legitimate companies from the SERP.

Not all companies are suspended for adding short names, but it is one of a common theme among a series of seemingly random suspensions.

Joe Youngblood sensitized public opinion to this problem on Twitter:

Hey @searchliaison People are apparently hanging seemingly at random on GMB when they have defined an abbreviated name. Is there any other bug?

– Joe Youngblood (@YoungbloodJoe) July 3, 2019 [1945]

In another tweet, Youngblood shared a screen capture of a Facebook group containing additional details.

Apparently, suspended announcements after the addition of abbreviated names were reinstated after deletion of abbreviated names:

You Can See In The Capture Of Screen shows that the Nobody says that only 2 of the 10 registrations he manages were suspended after adding short names. Most companies probably do not encounter any problems, otherwise we would hear many more complaints.

However, there is no doubt that abbreviated names are a recurring theme in a series of recent suspensions.

New cases of this problem are still reported. Even today, Lily Ray tweeted that a company she works with has seen her GMB list suspended after adding an abbreviated name:

It seems like the rumors may be true – by adding a @GoogleMyBiz . your ad is suspended ???

I am working on a legitimate business profile at 0%, with 0 quality issues / spam – we just add a short name and we are suddenly suspended. Google, what gives? https://t.co/blKJMGpwee

Google does not not confirmed his presence A bug related to GMB's abbreviated names also did not recognize that he was aware of this problem.

All this evidence is therefore anecdotal and the consensus is that deleting abbreviated names corrects the problem. If a GMB list has recently been suspended after adding a short name, the best thing to do is to delete it.
