Simply type the Search Appearance tab in the left menu bar to view all reports and tools.

Structured Data

What Does the Structured Data Tell Us in the Google Search Console

Any website owner, local business, or organization can understand the misfortunes of implementing structured data . You add the code to your site, but it still does not appear in the SERPs.

Fortunately, Google did all the work for us.

After adding the code to your website, go to the Google Search Console> Look for Appearance> Structured Data to search for errors.

You might see something like this:

 through

How to Fix Structured Data in the Google Search Console?

Whatever the structured data used (local business, blog posts, author, organization, etc.) in this report for you. If you use this report, you can even start seeing CTRs and indexed pages in your future.

Even though structured data does not constitute a ranking factor and your site does not lose If you correct these errors, it is best for the user to resolve the problem.

To correct structured data in the Google Search Console, you must analyze each error individually. You can use the Structured Data Test Tool to resolve these errors.

Let's use the example above.

 Structured data hash errors in the google search console "width =" 2704 "height =" 1192 "data-original =" https: //cdn.searchenginejournal. com / wp-content / uploads / 2017/08 / google-search-console-structured-data-hentry-errors.png

I know that structured hentry data must contain a title and an author to avoid mistakes. These 899 pages containing the 1,772 hentry errors all come from the category pages of the blog.

These category pages hosting blogs should not be marked with hentry structured data. So I have to delete these codes. Category pages.

If you work with a developer, I suggest you work with them on a quick fix if you have a large number of pages.

Rich Cards

What are smart cards in the Google Search Console?

Performances (the old version is called Search Analytics)

Is the Performance Report?

First of all. If you are using the old GSC, the Search Analytics report displays a 7, 28 or 90 day summary indicating the frequency of your website's display in the search results.

Data is displayed on the dashboard. which can be divided into the following metrics:

If you are like me and your spreadsheets are full of changes in traffic positioning and keywords, the performance of the research then constitute the hollow of your carrot. If it's not for content opportunities (what are editorial calendar dreams), at least for impressions and clicks by country and device.

What reports can I create with Google Performance? Search Console?

16 month data is a great way to get a quick overview of your website's performance and content in the SERP. If you create spreadsheets, download this Google Chrome extension. Believe me; it's a major time saver.

Here is an example of a spreadsheet that I am able to build:

search analytics spreadsheet "width =" 380 "height =" 270 "data -original =" https: // cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/search-analytics-spreadsheet-380x270.png[19459045_</p><p>You can use this data to identify:</p><p> High-Performance Pages with Low CTRNumber of clicks per keywordNumber of impressions by keyword</p><p> For example, I use this data to determine the metadata to be rewritten. Manually review the quality of the sites linking to you more than 100 times from one page. Use the Disavowal Tool to download your document of backlinks that you want Google to ignore. It is important to use this tool with caution. Make sure you study all the backlinks of these sites before downloading them.

Internal Links

What is the report on internal links? ?

The importance of internal liaison has been perceived in our brains since we began to learn to write meta-titles. What our SEO masters did not tell us? How to link internally according to the architecture of our site.

Just as backlinks are not all equal, internal links can be totally different. The internal links report tells Google what you think is needed on your website.

Manual Actions

What does the report say Manual Actions in the Google Search Console

Let's hope you should never use this section.

If you violate Google's guidelines, you will receive a notification in the manual action report. If you do, it might look like this:

 Google search console manual actions "width =" 380 "height =" 384 "data-original =" https: // cdn .searchenginejournal.com /wp-content/uploads/2017/08/google-search-console-manual-actions-380x384.png

Here is a full list of Google's manual actions.

How to remove manual actions from the Google Search Console?

If you receive a manual action notification, you will need to submit a reconsideration request. A reconsideration request requires a ton of work.

Requests for reconsiderations take time and require quick action from your team.

Here is a brief overview of the steps I have taken. in the past to recover a new client from unnatural links on the site:

Creating a link removal campaign to remove all spam links. Using the Google Spreadsheet to document the link removal job. Google wants to know how many times you've sent a website to remove the links and actions you take to monitor backlinks in the future. Unsubscribe file sent to Google. Write a letter explaining why it happened and the steps you took to remove it. the links.

International Targeting

What is the International Targeting Report?

If your website has multiple languages or targets a particular country, you want to use HREFlang tags.

The international targeting tool in the Google Search Console identifies errors in your HREFlang tags. If you have already tried to implement HREFlang tags, you know that they are not easy.

How to set country preferences in the Google Search Console?

If you are targeting a particular country, be sure to check your country traffic sources in Google Analytics before setting a preference for a country.

Gary Illyes of Google said on Twitter see the traffic fluctuations, but if you receive a lot of traffic from several countries, leave it alone.

To set the country preferences, follow these steps:

Go to the Google search console> Search traffic> International targeting> CountryIn the checkbox, you can choose the country to target.

If you do not set up targeting, Google will determine your location based on your website's domain, IP address, Google My Business addresses, links, and information

Mobile Usability

] What is the report on mobile usability?

Google launched the mobile usability report in the Google search console just before the big announcement to move to mobile-first index .

Mobile's Usability Report helps you solve any mobile-related design and development problem.

What starts out as a well thought out web design strategy, can quickly turn into a slow, inconsistent and awkward mess of a website, sending you in a vortex of zero and the bounce rate has gone up.

The side effects of a poorly designed mobile website can drown you in a little organic traffic and without customers.

Here are some common errors in the Mobile report. how to fix them:

Extended Content on Screen: Make sure your pages do not require horizontal scrolling Clickable Elements Too Close: Make Sure your links and buttons are far enough apart Viewport not configured: Make sure your pages use the meta viewport tag to adjust dimensions based on the device used by visitors.

 Google's mobile search console usage "width =" 2762 "height =" 924 "data-original =" https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/ google-search-console-mobile-usability.png to19459006]

Google Index

Looking for an index to index, try to find if CSS is blocked or delete URLs, Google's search index reports from the Google Search Console can make you go round in circles.

to Panda strikes because of its thin content. Google Index Search Console reports provide data about the performance of your content in Google Search.

(Note: If you search for the Content Keywords section it was removed in November 2016.)

Index Cover (the oldest version is the status of the index)

How to use the coverage report of the index?

Using the old version of GSC, the Index Status feature displays information about the URLs of your site that Google has indexed over the past year.

In the new GSC, the Index Coverage report also displays all your indexed pages. all pages that are not included in your sitemap.

 index-coverage-report-gsc "width =" 2830 "height =" 1308 "data-original =" https: //cdn.searchenginejournal .com / wp-content / uploads / 2018 / 01 / index-coverage-report-gsc.png

It will also provide a list of errors, something ke this:

 errors-index-coverage -report-gsc "width =" 1884 "height =" 592 "data-original =" https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/ 2018/01 / errors-index-coverage-report-gsc. png

Also, you will want to monitor this report to make sure that there are no big increases or decreases in your indexed. pages.

I like to use this report to determine if there is an index of indexing. By linking data from the Google Search Console to Google Analytics, webmasters can determine if they are unfortunate recipients of bloat indexes.

You want to know if the number of pages in the landing page report receiving organic traffic in Google Analytics.

 index-coverage-report "width =" 1900 "height =" 946 "data-original =" https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/ 2018/01 / index-coverage-report.png

Allez sur Google et effectuez un site: [insert website url] search

 google site search "width =" 380 "height =" 92 "données -original = "https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/google-site-search-380x92.png

 robots.txt bloquant java "width =" 380 "height =" 190 "data-original =" https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08 /robots-txt-blocking-java-380x190.png sous19459006]

Ils bloquent AJAX.

Here&#39;s an example:

annaleacrowe.com/meet-anna
annaleacrowe.com/Meet-Anna
www.annaleacrowe.com /meet-anna

Before submitting pages to GSC to remove, follow these steps:

Add noindex meta tag t o each pageInsert t he rel=canonical tag to each pageDisallow the pages in the robots.txt fileSubmit to Remove URLs

Think of this tool as a secret weapon to call out of retirement only when needed.

Crawl

We live in a mobile era. SEO pros are no longer just glancing over data; rather they’re diving deeper to uncover exactly what issues may be affecting your website.

Whether it’s adding a 301 redirect or looking at your site the same way Google does — this data can only improve websites.

Crawl Errors

What is the Crawl Errors report?

The Crawl Errors reports tell you what pages are broken on your website. This report has two sections:

This duo can keep your server, HTTP response codes, and your different errors (404, access denied, and so on) in check.

Site errors display errors from your whole website. You may see something like this:

site errors google search console" width="380" height="100" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/site-errors-google-search-console-380x100.png

URL errors show errors from crawling pages on your desktop and mobile site. You will see something like this:

url errors google search console" width="2200" height="878" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/url-errors-google-search-console.png

How do I fix Crawl Errors?

Some standard Crawl Errors:

DNS (Domain Name System) error: This error means something is happening on the server side so contact wherever you’re hosting (GoDaddy, BlueHost, etc.).Server errors: Server errors usually happen when you’re site is being hit with too much traffic. You’ll want to dig deeper to see if it’s an issue related to the connection or timeout.Soft 404 errors: These errors indicate that your header HTTP response code does not return a 404 code. To fix, implement a 301 redirect if the page is dead or review the page for thin or duplicate content.404 errors: These are the most common error you will get. 404 errors can happen when you unpublish a page, delete the page, etc. While 404 errors don’t impact your rankings necessarily, they can impact your backlinks. If you have 20+ backlinks pointing to a 404 page, you’ll want to 301 redirect that page immediately.

After a long month of page speed enhancements and keyword mapping, the easiest quick fixes you can do to your website are cleaning up your crawl errors.

With just one 301 redirect, you can transform a broken link to a magical nest of backlink unicorns. Meaning: If you have a broken page that is generating a lot of backlinks, 301 redirecting it will make sure you’re still getting the credit (and authority) for those backlinks.

Crawl Stats

What is the Crawl Stats report?

The Crawl Stats section in Google Search Console can often look like a hot mess of red, blue, and green lines. But, this data actually measures your crawl rate.

The Crawl Stats report tells you how often and when Google is crawling your site.

How do I use the Crawl Stats report?

A fast crawl rate means that the Googlebot is indexing your site quickly. And, as Google crawls your site more, you should see better search performance.

If you see major dips and spikes, there may be an issue with your site.

Crawl Stats comes with three reports:

1. Pages crawled per day

Bad pages crawled per day:

google search console crawl stats bad" width="380" height="149" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/google-search-console-crawl-stats-pages-crawled-bad-380x149.png

Good pages crawled per day:

google search console crawl stats good" width="380" height="153" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/google-search-console-crawl-stats-pages-crawled-good-380x153.png

If you see a lot of spikes and dips, you may want to investigate. If you recently added new content to the site or unblocked a section in your robots.txt file, this is why you may see a significant spike.

In the example above, the client transitions from HTTP to HTTPS without a proper plan in place, so the Google was indexing both pages.

Next, let’s look at the other two charts:

2. Kilobytes downloaded per day

kilobytes per day google search console" width="380" height="155" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/kilobytes-per-day-google-search-console-380x155.png

3. Time spent downloading a page

time spent downloading google search console" width="380" height="160" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/time-spent-download-google-search-console-380x160.png

I look at how these two charts compare to each other.

If both graphs are pretty high, then you want to double check your HTTP requests to make sure you’re not hitting 20+. You can use a tool such as SEO Site Checkup to check for multiple HTTP requests happening.

URL Inspection Tool (new) / Fetch as Google (0ld)

What is the URL Inspection tool (new) / Fetch as Google tool (0ld)?

The URL Inspection tool might be one of my favorites because you get to see how Google views your website. This tool allows you to test how Google renders your site.

It’s very similar to the Fetch as Google tool in the old GSC version. If you click Fetch, you’ll see the HTTP response that Google is receiving. If you click Fetch and Render, you’ll see how your page looks in a particular browser.

How do I use the URL Inspection tool /Fetch as Google tool?

To use the new URL Inspection tool, add your URL to the top search bar in the new Google Search Console here:

Then, you should see a report like this:

url-inspection-tool" width="380" height="202" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/url-inspection-tool-380x202.png

Google released a list of features for this new tool that you can read about here.

I still like to use the Fetch as Google tool to discover d ynamically generated content that may be hidden. We all know how Gary Illyes feels about hidden dynamically generated content.

After you submit your URL to “fetch and render,” you’ll get a response like this:

fetch as google google search console" width="380" height="186" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/google-search-console-fetch-as-google-380x186.png

This is not to be confused with static content. Content behind click-to-expand links won’t hurt your rankings, according to Google’s John Mueller.

Meaning, it’s OK to have this:

click-to-expand" width="380" height="190" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/annaleacrowe-faq-expand-380x190.gif

Other uses for Fetch as Google:

Update an old webpageLaunch a new section of your websiteIntroduce new mobile designUpdated robots.txt fileImplemented rel=canonical tagsTransition from HTTP to HTTPS

Robots.txt Tester

What is the Robots.txt Tester tool?

Robots.txt files can be disastrous if implemented incorrectly. Many SEO professionals have horror stories about those clients who don’t understand why their website isn’t getting any organic traffic.

Well, the robots.txt tester tool lets you know exactly what is blocking Googlebot from URLs on your site.

How to make sure my website isn’t blocking Google?

To make sure your website isn’t blocking important pages to Google, head over to the robots.txt Tester and enter a main page URL in the text field. Click “Test” to see if it will be allowed or disallowed.

You should see something like this if the webpage is allowed:

robots.txt tester google search console" width="380" height="22" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/robots-txt-google-search-console-380x22.png

If the page is blocked, you should see a red “blocked.”

Sitemaps (both in old and new version)

What is the Sitemaps report?

Sitemaps can feel like the mysterious man hidden behind the green curtain. So much of what you include in your sitemap, from excluding tags to removing categories, can affect your website.

Pay attention to the Sitemaps report warnings. You can view both of these in the old and new version of Google Search Console. Here is a look at the new Sitemap.

The Sitemaps report in Google Search Console shares insights to what is happening on your website. Yes, these are errors found in your sitemap, but so much more can be discovered from this error report.

How do I fix errors in the Sitemap report?

Fear not, your best defense to these sitemap errors is digging deep into the cause of why these errors occurred in the first place.

Here is a problem I’ve come across through my site audits:

A large website comes to me for an SEO audit. They have 100,000+ pages with multiple sitemaps. Awesome, right?

After taking 5 seconds to review their sitemap errors, I noticed only 1 URL was being indexed compared to 16,000 URLs from of this sitemap. After more investigating, I saw an uppercase letter in the sitemap entry.

After fixing the entry, 83 percent of the pages were indexed in 2 weeks and 2,357 percent increase in traffic.

URL Parameters

What is the URL Parameters tool?

There’s nothing worse than discovering your website is flooded with duplicate content. And, it always seems to happen at the worst times — launching a new product, holiday season, the first day of your vacation.

So, how do quickly fix duplicate content issues?

The URL Parameters tool.

This tool displays all the parameters used on your site.

For example, you might see something like this:

url parameters google search console" width="2636" height="1154" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/url-parameters-google-search-console.png

How do I use the URL Parameters tool?

With the Parameter URL tool, you can set preferences for Google on how you want them to treat each of the parameter types.

Here’s a good example of how comments can turn into duplicate content if you don’t set up your parameters correctly:

google search console url parameters comments" width="380" height="176" data-original="https://cdn.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/google-search-console-url-parameters-comments-380x176.gif

While SEO pros know that using canonical tags can protect you from duplicate content, it doesn’t prevent you from wasting your crawl budget which could lead to index bloat.

Using the Parameter URL tool can help you manage crawl budget and duplicate content in one place.
